Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 Curriculum (Years 1 and 2) 2020-2021

Miss C Close - KS1 Team Leader

At Berwick Hills Primary School we follow the National Curriculum guidance and assess children’s current levels as the basis for planning and teaching English (Key Stage One Programme of Study) and Mathematics (Key Stage One Programme of Study) across the Key Stage, as well as other primary curriculum subjects including:

  • Science
  • Computing
  • History
  • Geography
  • PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic)
  • PE (physical Education)
  • Music
  • French
  • Design and Technology
  • Art and Design
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

As a Key Stage Team, we plan and incorporate the core content and programmes of study from the National Curriculum frameworks together with topical themes and ideas as outlined above to provide context, purpose and relevance to the children's work. Giving the children quality learning through experience, is of prime importance to us and, whenever possible, we incorporate trips to enhance the children’s learning.

The children work hard in school and we appreciate your continuing support with this at home. It is important, for their progress in reading, that the children read to an adult at home at least three times a week and that it is recorded in their reading record. Children who read at home regularly are given raffle tickets to enter into our prize draw to win a book in Star Assembly on a Friday. Spellings are given out on a Friday and these will be tested the following Friday.

We are happy to answer any queries you may have. However, we are unable to have discussions as you drop off and pick up at this time due to restrictions placed on us by Coronavirus. The best method is to write a note in your child’s reading record and we will respond via this or telephone you if appropriate.
